Beth, head Piercer and co owner of Nightbreed Tattooing has been piercing for over 7 years. The process of piercing can be very quick however Beth doesn't approach the process as such. She takes her time with every client and try's her best to explain what is going on as well as jewelry placement and selection. Beth can be contacted at Nightbreed or by clicking her personal email below. Titanium is now playing a major role in the body jewelry market. Titanium is challenging stainless steel as the most favored metal in the body piercing jewelry industry. Titanium is only half the weight of steel and can be anodized, offering a wide selection of surface colors. Not all grades of titanium and its alloys are suitable for invasive body jewelry applications. We are now using grade 23 surgical titanium for all new Piercings. This is a grade recognized by standard society’s world wide for medical devices, including the international standards organization in Switzerland and the ASTM in the USA. Heart valves, pacemakers and replacement human body parts are being made of Grade 23 titanium. Its biocompatibility is internally accepted by the body, Grade 23 titanium has been assigned an 'F' prefix by the ASTM (F-136), signifying its status as an approved medical grade material. Our Body jewelry is highly polished for physiological acceptance and decorative effect and comes in a sparkling spectrum of vivid colors. Grade 23 titanium can be used for all primary piercings in accordance with the European Union Nicket Directive. All jewelry has a super smooth surface and extreme chemical stability. The passive oxide film on grade 23 titanium is almost three times thicker than on 'commercially pure' grade 1 titanium. It is the oxide film on the titanium which gives the material its high corrosion resistant properties. Grade 23 titanium has a yield strength almost double the yield strength of grade 1 titanium, and displays excellent kinetics. Grade 23 titanium is also specified by the APP (Association of Professional Piercers) for body jewelry usage. G23 titanium is also half the weight of niobium and significantly harder, resulting in a more durable performance. All Nightbreed’s jewelry is super polished and many items are also available anodized. Some say with proof in the form of testing that colored titanium is safe for new piercings; however we recommended that the Plain Polished titanium grade 23 be used in initial piercings as body fluids can cause discoloration of the anodized product. WARNING! GRADE 1 TITANIUM CAN PERMANENTLY DISCOLOR THE SKIN! Some piercers are using commercially pure grade 1' titanium on customers. Accepted medical evidence shows that soft tissue adjacent to G1 titanium can be permanently blackened due to low hardness and low abrasion resistance of the unalloyed material. Nightbreed Tattooing’s piercer is using only G23 jewelry because in tests tissues adjacent to G23 titanium has showed neither cell damage, macrophages, or any other signs of inflammation or skin damage as long as aftercare and proper piercing placement and jewelry selection are used. We feel that this grade will add to our already proven reputation and add to the ease of healing and comfort to the customer. If you have any questions please call during business hours and we will be happy to answer or help in any way we can.
